Welcome to the city of Charleroi, in Belgium. I have gathered a series of 125 pictures taken in Charleroi in 2019, as well as others taken in the nearby town of Châtelet, to put together this photography book full of smiles. Charleroi lies to the south of Brussels and is an hub airport destination of the airline Ryanair. From the city you can visit Brussels, Namur, Liège, Lille, and Luxembourg easily. The Youth Hostel is a modern accommodation option and only a few meters away from the bus and train stations of Charleroi-Sud. If you come to Charleroi or to Brussels, visiting the Sunday open market on the streets of the center of Charleroi could be an excellent idea. There are hundreds of stalls where you can buy anything from good Belgian food to presents and even have a pastis cocktail. Strolling in the Sunday market of Charleroi is a unique experience worth trying. If you happen to be around in September, then you can be an spectator of the festivities of the city with its Giants of Charleroi and a music band. Also, if you have an afternoon free, perhaps you could visit the town of Châtelet, childhood town of the famous Belgian painter Maigritte, you know, the inventor of "Ceci n'est pas une pipe" and many other surrealist masterpieces. Perhaps the most interesting feature of Charleroi and Châtelet are its inhabitants themselves. After photographing them, one gets the strong feeling that they are polite an gentle. They display patient and friendly manners, often with a natural smile on their faces. Some pictures here prove it. Also, one can sense the famous joie-de-vivre on the streets, especially during the weekends and on Sundays, on the street bars.
